SDCC: Marvel Announces Hawkeye Series Starring Jeremy Renner And Introducing Kate Bishop

One of the many announcements made during Marvel Studio's Comic-Con panel, fans think Kate Bishop may be playing a big part in Phase 4 of the MCU.

When the first trailer for Avengers: Endgame was released, many were certain they spotted Kate Bishop, the woman who would in time take on the Hawkeye mantle. And though the film was awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping, and the perfect send-off for more than one of our heroes, fans couldn’t help but feel slightly disappointed by the fact that Kate Bishop was nowhere to be seen. That disappointment was replaced with giddy excitement today as Marvel announced an original series titled Hawkeye, introducing the long-awaited character.

In San Diego Comic-Con’s infamous Hall H, Marvel Studios confirmed that Jeremy Renner would be starring in Hawkeye, set to release in the autumn of 2021, exclusively streaming on Disney’s new platform, Disney+. Not only will we see our favourite archer return to the screen, we’ll also finally be meeting his successor, Kate Bishop.

Now, for those of you who aren’t familiar Bishop’s story, here’s what you need to know.

Kate Bishop was first introduced after Clint Barton’s death, thanks to Scarlet Witch (another story for another time). With Clint gone, the Avengers found themselves without a star archer, and as Kate has mastered both archery and martial arts, she claimed the mantle as her own, and proved that she was well worthy of it. But, as anyone who reads comics will know, characters don’t tend to stay dead for very long. Resurrection is part of the fun! But when Clint came back, Bishop refused to give up the mantle. Both of them continued to refer to themselves as Hawkeye. It undoubtedly made for some confusing times, and it’s safe to say that the two didn’t have the warmest of relationships. But many think Marvel Studios is going to take the character in a different direction.

While Avengers: Endgame may not have introduced Kate Bishop in the traditional sense, the film began with Clint teaching his daughter how to shoot, and she seemed to inherit her father’s natural skill! Some think that his daughter will be the one to take on the Hawkeye mantle! Does that mean Clint is heading for trouble? Or will he simply retire after seeing so much death and destruction? At this point, it’s impossible to say for sure. But the announcement of the series is enough to keep us on the edge of our seats! Stay tuned for more updates!

Marvel Studio’s Original Series, Hawkeye, Will Be Released on Disney+ In Fall 2021.
