Will Tyrion Kill Daenerys In The Series Finale Of ‘Game Of Thrones’?

While Jon and Arya seem to be fan picks, a lot of evidence suggests Tyrion will be the one to kill her.

The final episode of Game Of Thrones is only a few hours away, and fans are as worried as they are excited. This is it. Tonight marks the end of an era, and the series finale will dictate how the show will be remembered. And after the shocking events of Episode 5, The Bells, fans are wondering just how much of a happy ending we can expect.

Daenerys and her army attacked King’s Landing in the penultimate episode, and the victory was, unsurprisingly, easy. Daenerys and Drogon quickly destroyed each of the scorpions, taking out the Iron Fleet, the Golden Company, and hundreds of Lannister soldiers in minutes. In the process, she lost no men. But when the bells of King’s Landing rang, signalling the city’s surrender, Daenerys was filled with an overwhelming anger. This didn’t feel like a victory. Cersei was still alive. The people responsible for the death of Missandei and Rhaegal were still alive. And in that moment, she lost her mercy and became vengeful. She took the city with fire and blood, turning every building and every person to ash.

Daenerys won. This is what we’ve all been rooting for since Season 1. And yet, she became a villain by doing so. It’s become clear that the Mother of Dragons is not the ruler we thought she’d be, that she’s no longer the same person. And she cannot be allowed to sit on the Iron Throne.

While there is a strong possibility that Daenerys will survive the final episode and rule, many believe that there’s no choice other than for her to die. She won’t give up the Throne, it must be taken from her. This, of course, begs the question that is on everyone’s mind. Who will kill her?

Some think it will be Arya. After all, Melisandre teased that she would shut brown eyes, blue eyes, and green eyes. Could Daenerys be her next kill? She’s certainly out for vengeance after the slaughter of innocents that she witnessed. Not to mention the fact that she was almost killed multiple times as well! But she already killed the Night King, and it seems a little too easy that she gets both of the big kills this season.

Others think Jon Snow is destined to kill her. That he will plunge his sword through her heart, and in doing so, his sword will become Lightbringer, proving that he was the Prince That Was Promised all along. He will bring an end to the darkness and save Westeros. It’s entirely possible, but we’re not entirely convinced that Jon is capable of killing his own Aunt. His loyalty runs too deep for that. So, who does that leave? We think the most likely person to kill Daenerys is none other than her own Hand.

Yes, you read that right. While he may seem an unlikely choice at first glance, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that Tyrion will be the one to kill Daenerys! Let’s break it down.

He Betrayed Varys For Her

Varys, in many ways, has been Tyrion’s closest friend over the years. After all, he risked his life to help Tyrion escape custody, after being accused of Joffrey’s murder. Varys left King’s Landing, a place that had been his home for so many years, he served a new ruler, and risked his neck all to help Tyrion. And, of course, the realm. Betraying Varys was no easy feat, but that’s how much he believed in Daenerys. And in the end, Varys was right. She was not fit to rule. Tyrion undoubtedly feels immense guilt, feeling responsible for his friend’s death. All to help a ruler who went against everything she once stood for.

He begged her, pleaded with her to show mercy. If the bells of the city were rung, she agreed that she would let the people of King’s Landing live. She would only go after Cersei. But she broke that promise. And her decision to lay waste to both the city and the Red Keep is what killed both Cersei and Jaime. Hearing of his sister’s death will bring a tear to Tyrion’s eye, we’re sure. But hearing of Jaime’s death? That will destroy him. Jaime was the one person he always counted on, he could always trust. The one person who never looked at him like a monster. His death will break him, and it may be enough to give him the strength to kill his Queen.

She Would Never See It Coming

Tyrion was the one who came to her about Varys, warning her of his betrayal. He has advised her faithfully and loyally, no matter what. Even if he disagrees with her, he simply cautions her, never questions her. He is the most loyal adviser she has left. She knows he will not stab her in the back…metaphorically. But what if she turned her back to him, and he literally stabbed her? She would never anticipate it from him, and she quite literally would not see him coming!

He Would Follow In Jaime’s Footsteps, Becoming a Queenslayer

Years ago, when Jaime served Dany’s father, the Mad King, he stabbed him in the back to save millions of lives. The Mad King raved about how he would kill everyone, how he wanted to ‘burn them all’. Jaime killed the King he was loyal to in order to save millions of lives. And we think Tyrion will do the same. Imagine it. Daenerys and Tyrion are in the Throne room, which is now covered in ash. She says that what she did was righteous, perhaps even telling him of others she intends to kill. What if she plans to kill Sansa? Daenerys turns her back, and it’s in this moment that Tyrion stabs her through the back. Jaime Lannister, the Kingslayer, and Tyrion Lannister, the Queenslayer. A poetic, albeit painful, ending.

Tyrion has more reason than anyone alive to kill Daenerys. And we know he’s capable of getting his hands dirty when he needs to. If he killed his own father, he surely can kill his own Queen. Don’t mistake us, we would have loved nothing more than to see Daenerys rule. We were rooting for her. But we don’t know if she can come back from this, and we’ve seen enough tyrants on the Throne.
