“Everywhere I go…I see his face.”-Peter Parker
A new trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home dropped on Monday afternoon, and it began as bleakly as one might expect. This is the first film that is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame. In other words, it is the first film in the MCU where Tony Stark is gone.
Avengers: Endgame was not the end, as many believe. But it was the end of Phase 3, which in many ways does signal the end of the MCU as we know it. Things are going to change, and this Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer teases just how much.
Infinity War saw Tony saying goodbye to Peter as he turned to dust in his arms. But Endgame featured a role reversal, with Peter running to Tony, watching in horror and misery as his idol died before his eyes, with Pepper wrapping her arms around him. Living in a world without Tony Stark, without the man who made him an Avenger, is a near impossible thing to come to terms with. But Happy is still there to guide Peter, as Tony would’ve wanted. And he reminds him of the faith Tony had in him.
“I don’t think Tony would have done what he did if he didn’t know that you were gonna be here after he was gone.”-Happy
It’s time for Peter to step up. He might be on vacation, he might be on a school trip, and yes, he may be very far from home. But there’s a problem that needs dealing with. And Nick Fury’s calling him in.
Nick Fury is working with his regular team (as everyone’s back now, thanks to Tony), with one extra addition. A man called Mr. Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), an expert in what is known as the multiverse. According to Fury, the Snap tore a hole in their universe as they know it, creating multiple realities, and allowing elemental creatures to enter their dimension. Sounds intense, right?
Peter must work with Mr. Beck to try and save the world from these elemental creatures. But we know something that Peter doesn’t. Mr. Beck is also known as Mysterio, a super-villain in the comics. Could this all be Mysterio’s way of trying to take over the world? Could the elementals be under his control? We’ll have to wait until July to know for certain!
