‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ Won’t Hit Theaters Until 2021

The highly anticipated film isn't expected to start filming until spring of next year.

Mark your calendars, witches and wizards, because the new Fantastic Beasts film finally has a release date! But it looks like you’re going to be waiting a while.

It was announced late last week that Fantastic Beasts 3, which is, as of yet, untitled, won’t be hitting theaters until November 12, 2021. This is certainly a longer wait than fans were anticipating! The film isn’t set to start filming until spring of next year, giving the team ample time to perfect all the details, hopefully making the third installment the best of the franchise yet.

Both audience and critical reception of the Fantastic Beasts franchise has been uneven, to say the least, but we here at Fiction’s Mistress cannot get enough of it! The Crimes Of Grindelwald, which hit theaters last November, gave us a more intensive look at the Wizarding World than we’ve ever seen before. This separated fans. Some felt it was far too complicated, while others were begging for more! As massive Potterheads, we proudly identify with the latter, incredibly intrigued to see where the franchise goes next.

The Crimes Of Grindelwald left off with Grindelwald himself revealing that Credence is, in fact, the brother of Albus Dumbledore! Now, fans aren’t entirely sold on this bit of information, since Grindelwald would say anything to destroy his lover-turned-nemesis, but we looked into it, and it could very well turn out to be true! Meanwhile, thanks to the help of his Niffler, Newt was able to steal the artifact containing the blood pact between Grindelwald and Dumbledore. We know Albus will eventually break it, as he is the one who defeats Grindelwald in the end. But we still have 3 films until that happens, so there’s no telling what the next one could bring!

Fans are hoping that the third film will show more of Nagini, revealing what persuades her to turn evil, and hopefully we’ll see the redemption of Queenie, who is now by Grindelwald’s side! No word on the plot quite yet, and unfortunately, we do have a while to wait. All we can do is hope for the best! And, of course, re-watch!

  1. I hope this delay means they’re listening to audiences and fixing the script. Because the second installment had creative world-building but I thought the plot was all over the place.

I do think Grindelwald is telling the truth about Credence (or at least half the truth) because I don’t see how lying would benefit him. And it does make sense that the only way Credence has survived as long as he has with an Obscurus is due to a powerful wizarding bloodline.
