2019 has been the year of surprising trailers, especially where visual effects are concerned. In the first trailer for Disney’s live-action Aladdin, the Genie was nothing short of laughable. But the effects team worked their magic, and by the time the second trailer rolled around, fans were loving his look and more excited than ever.
Then, came Detective Pikachu. The concept of the movie had everyone cringing. Why would anyone make this a live-action film? But as soon as the first trailer released, people fell in love with the idea, and of course, with Ryan Reynolds voicing Pikachu. What once had fans rolling their eyes now has people more excited than ever. But is the same fate destined for Sonic The Hedgehog? Or is this movie doomed?
Fans were both excited and hesitant when it was announced that a live-action film about Sonic was coming. But when the first poster arrived, fans were less than pleased. In an age where visual effects are at their best, people couldn’t understand why Sonic looked the way he did. And the trailer doesn’t seem to provide much of comfort on that front.
The film looks ridiculous, but if it plays to that, there’s a good chance it could work! Fans seem to like Sonic’s personality, and almost everyone can agree that Jim Carrey, who plays Dr. Eggman, seems to be the highlight of the trailer. Carrey is bringing his signature wacky performance style to the film, and again, if they stick to that tone, it could work in their favor! But fans are having trouble getting past Sonic’s design, and if the film wants to succeed, it’s going to have to improve the effects. Maybe the second trailer will step up its game!
