It’s Sunday, and you know what that means. It’s Game Of Thrones night! And tonight’s episode is an incredibly special one. Not only is Season 8, Episode 3 arguably the most anticipated television episode of the year, it also features the largest battle we’ve ever seen in television history! The battle, which sees the Starks, Lannisters, and Targaryens fighting side by side against the army of the dead, takes place at Winterfell. Apparently it took 55 nights to shoot! And as excited as fans are, they’re equally terrified. A lot of characters are going to die tonight, and the photos that were just released are not making us feel any better.
The series released 6 images from the coming episode, and each is as haunting as the last. But a lot can be learned from these photos!
While we knew that Tyrion would be down in the Crypts, and we assumed that Varys would be joining him, we learn through these photos that Sansa will also be joining them. It makes sense. She is the Lady of Winterfell, and she has one of the most intelligent and strategic minds in Westeros. This will be of great use in the coming battles, but not against the army of the dead. Her place is with her people.
Jon will be in a few different places in this episode, it seems. We’ll certainly see him in the middle of the battle, undoubtedly slaying countless White Walkers in the process. But he’ll also be observing the battle from afar, with Daenerys by his side. Are they waiting for the Night King? Is this the calm before the storm? From the looks of the photo, it seems the battle has not yet begun, so we’d guess this moment alone doesn’t last for very long.
Brienne and Jaime look terrified as they stand side by side, swords drawn, with an army at their back and the dead before them. This is going to get bloody incredibly fast. As for the younger Stark sister? We see Arya standing beside Sansa on the battlements. We can’t see Arya’s face, but Sansa’s eyes are wide and full of pure shock. What can this mean!?
Tonight’s episode will not only be a battle, but a slaughter. We know that we’ll see many of our favourite characters fall, and we’re nowhere near ready.
