The eighth and final season premiere of HBO’s beloved series, Game Of Thrones, airs this Sunday, and fans are freaking out. We have waited so long for this, for so many answers we are hoping to receive in this last season. We aren’t ready to say goodbye to our favourite characters yet, but we need to know…how will it all end? Is a happy ending, even a bittersweet ending even possible? Well, apparently the answer is right here on the internet, if we can dissect it.
The creators/showrunners of the series, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are joining forces yet again for another cruel trick. They have collaborated with Spotify to create the ultimate Game Of Thrones inspired playlist. Aptly titled Game Of Thrones: The End Is Coming, the playlist apparently contains hints of how the series will end!
“The answer to the ending is one hundred percent hidden in the playlist choices…No one will believe us, but it’s true.”
These showrunners do like to torture us. Where in seven hells is the answer to the ending? The titles of the songs are certainly less than subtle. Queen, Dire Wolf, Wolves Of Winter, Crown On The Ground, these are just a few of the 50 song titles in this playlist. There is a definitely a theme here.
We don’t even know where to begin with this one. But here are a few things we have noticed in this playlist.
- Love and destruction seem to be mingling a lot in this playlist. Cersei herself has said many times how dangerous love is, how it is a weakness. While she’s named the Mad Queen for a reason, could this turn out to be true? Could her love for someone, or another character’s love for someone else, be their doom?
- Fire is also a big theme in this playlist, and while we always associate fire with Daenerys, maybe they’re hinting at Cersei. The choice of the song Toxicity by System Of A Down is curious. There’s one line in particular that strikes me. “The toxicity of our city”. This might be a stretch, but could Cersei be the one to burn down King’s Landing?
- There is surprisingly very few songs relating to the army of the dead coming. I don’t know if this means anything. But I’m not entirely sold that it doesn’t.
- There’s also a song titled No One Knows on this playlist. So it’s entirely possible this is all just a cruel joke. Who knows?
There’s a lot going on in this playlist. All we know for certain is that choosing Seven Nation Army was genius. Obvious, but genius.
Have any theories? Comment below and let’s talk Thrones! You can listen to the Spotify playlist here.
