Viola Davis Is Returning As Amanda Waller In ‘The Suicide Squad’

Davis is one of only three confirmed returning cast members.

Some exciting news came for DC fans on Friday morning, regarding the studio’s soft reboot of Suicide Squad, titled, The Suicide Squad. Sources confirm that none other than Oscar winner Viola Davis is returning as Amanda Waller!

This news is certainly a relief, though not necessarily a surprise. While The Suicide Squad is being treated as a soft reboot rather than a sequel, there are some aspects of the original that needed to be kept in place. One that goes without saying is, of course, the return of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Robbie’s portrayal of the Clown Princess of Crime was as enjoyable as it was crazy. Both critics and audiences alike agreed that she was one of the best parts of the film. And a close second was Davis’ performance as Waller.

There is no Suicide Squad without Amanda Waller. Task Force X is her project, and she is the woman who operates it all. She is a master manipulator, and in some ways, more evil than any of the members of the actual Squad itself. And Davis brought her to life in a way that no one was expecting. Replacing her would never have succeeded, just as carrying the film without her character would have inevitably failed.

Davis is the third confirmed cast member to return for The Suicide Squad, alongside the aforementioned Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang. Idris Elba is also joining the cast, but no word yet on who he’ll be playing. The film will be directed and written by James Gunn, who is best known for writing and directing Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy. We can’t wait to see this!
