Ever since Jon Snow was brutally murdered in the Season 5 finale of HBO’s hit fantasy series, Game of Thrones, there’s been a running joke among the cast that the network has snipers following all of the actors on their press tours, ensuring no spoilers get leaked. This cast has to be the most secretive ever, especially now, with the final season less than two weeks away. But Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark, fooled us all when she made us think she actually revealed a major spoiler on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.
Williams appeared on The Tonight Show on April 1st, which, to be fair, should have been our first clue. But the beginning of the interview went so seamlessly! Williams was talking about some of Arya’s defining moments, such as watching Ned Stark’s beheading, or reuniting with Sansa and finally killing Littlefinger. But when Fallon asked her about the upcoming season and what she could tell him about it, things started to go sideways.
She began by saying how the final days were really tough. And then she let slip this little tidbit.
“When I found out that Arya died in, like, the second episode…”-Maisie Williams
Williams immediately covered her mouth. Her eyes were wide and glossy with tears, her hands and voice literally shaking. We knew it was a prank when we watched, but we were still convinced it was real! Honestly, we’re still not entirely sold! But according to them, as we see at the end of the video, the whole thing was just a very well done April Fools’ Prank. It’s the best we’ve seen in years!
