Last week, I finally started watching (or should I say, binging) Netflix’s Queer Eye. I know. What took me so long? This was the exact question I kept asking myself as I watched episode after episode, falling in love with the Fab 5 and everything they stand for. Quite honestly, I’ve become a little obsessed and very much inspired by everything they do. And earlier this week, 4 members of the Fab 5 (Bobby unfortunately had a previous engagement), did an interview with Seventeen and revealed what advice they’d give to their younger selves, and it is as inspirational as you hoped!
JVN kicks off with some amazing advice that we here at Fiction’s Mistress definitely try to follow.
“Say ‘no’ more often, girl!”
-Jonathan Van Ness
Karamo echoes this advice, but adds on that it’s important to understand that hearing ‘no’ is a necessary part of life. Whether it’s your career or your dating life, or even in friendships, we’ve all experienced rejection. It’s going to happen no matter what we do. But at the end of the day, we can’t be afraid of it. It’s not your fault if someone doesn’t see how amazing you are!
As for Tan and Antoni? Both are of the same mind that social media can be such an incredible source of positivity and support, if you allow it to be. There is a lot of hate on the internet, but there’s also a lot of love. Tan says it best.
“You kind of set your own algorithm. If you’re looking at support systems and people who are encouraging positivity in your life, that’s what you’re gonna have on your Insta or your social. If you are looking at those things that are hateful and make you feel bad about yourself, that’s gonna encourage a different kind of algorithm. So, push that positivity forward.”
-Tan France
These guys give this advice and so much more during their interview with Seventeen. This is nearly 10 minutes of wisdom, so soak it all up, and enjoy!
