‘Captain Marvel’ Is Flying Higher, Further, Faster With Its Record-Breaking Box Office Numbers

Captain Marvel's opening weekend proves yet again that a female-led film can be as wildly successful as any led by a man.

Well, it’s Monday morning. And you know what that means! The numbers for Captain Marvel‘s opening weekend are in, and yes, everything you hoped for came true.

Captain Marvel has been generating a lot of hype for not only months, but for a couple of years! And there’s no question as to why. Captain Marvel is one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel comics, and she is now the most powerful in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Considering she is also the first female superhero to lead her own film in the MCU, this is a major historic moment. But with fans and excitement comes haters and judgement. And though it was incredibly disappointing to see, it was unsurprising that Captain Marvel had thousands of trolls to battle before the film even released. But in the end, they were no match for Carol Danvers.

Captain Marvel earned an incredible $153 million in ticket sales in North America, earning a whopping total of $455 million worldwide! Yes, you read that right! This officially makes it the biggest opening weekend ever for a female-led film! It is the seventh most successful opening of the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in North America, and the second most successful superhero opening globally! Based on these numbers, Captain Marvel will soon be soaring to the $1 billion mark, and honestly, we can’t say we’re surprised. Trolls and haters are always going to be there, but Captain Marvel is no match for them. And if you’ve seen the film, you’ll know why. As for us here at Fiction’s Mistress? We’ve already seen it twice, and can’t wait for a third.

Higher, further, faster, baby.
