One of the best songs of 2018, a song that managed to stay at the top of the charts for weeks and is still being played on radio stations months later, came from a little Academy Award nominated film titled A Star Is Born. And seriously, if you haven’t seen the film yet, put it at the top of your list. This film was one of the best of year. In fact, it was one of the best of the decade! From the music to the cinematography, everything about A Star Is Born was painfully beautiful, and none more so than our two incredible lead actors.
Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga played love interests and musicians Jackson and Ally, and the film followed the ups and downs of their relationship. And the first song they ever performed together, Shallow, has since become iconic. We forget that these are two fictional characters performing. This feels like so much more. Maybe it’s because Lady Gaga convinced Bradley Cooper he had a strong enough voice to carry the role. Maybe it’s their chemistry. But the song still brings tears to our eyes every time we hear it, and that’s why it is no surprise that Cooper and Gaga will be performing the duet at this year’s Oscars.
That’s right! The news was made official on Friday by this tweet from the Academy.
As if that isn’t exciting enough, apparently Gaga and Cooper have discussed how they might perform it! In an interview with Variety, Cooper had this to say on the subject:
“We talked about that actually, because I’m such a maniac. I started texting [Gaga] the whole pitch of how we should do it. So we’ll see. There might be a cool, unorthodox way we could perform it.”-Bradley Cooper
If we weren’t excited for the Oscars before, we definitely are now! This almost makes up for the fact that Bradley Cooper didn’t receive a nomination for Best Director. Almost.
The 91st Academy Awards Will Air On February 24th.
