Sansa Stark And Daenerys Targaryen Meet In The Newest ‘Game Of Thrones’ Clip

Though both are some of the strongest women in Westeros, they haven't had a chance to meet. Until now...

With the final season of HBO’s hit fantasy series, Game of Thrones, only months away, fans are starting to get antsy. We have already waited over a year, after all! Which means that every glimpse into the long-awaited eighth season is much appreciated. Even if it’s only 5 seconds long.

On Sunday, January 6th, HBO released their annual teaser, revealing short glimpses into their most anticipated series, new and returning. It comes as no surprise that Game of Thrones is not only included, but steals the spotlight. A lot can happen in 5 seconds. And this is major. Take a look. Start at the 38 second mark to see the drama unfold.

Where do we begin!?

Firstly, notice that Jorah is by Dany’s side, and Jon is by Sansa’s. This is a key point for a few reasons. One, it shows that Daenerys, though she now trusts Jon, isn’t about to throw away the council or trust of her other advisers. And it shows that Jon hasn’t given away his loyalty either. Though he is a Targaryen (not to his knowledge, of course), he was raised by Eddard Stark. And Starks are loyal to their own no matter what the cost. They may have had their differences, but his loyalty still remains with the family he was raised with.

Brienne is back at Winterfell, too, we see, standing firmly and watchfully behind Sansa as Daenerys steps forward to meet the acting Lady of Winterfell. And the tension is palpable. Daenerys is as regal as ever, still sporting her snowy fur coat, and even graces us with a rare smile, something we haven’t seen often of late when she meets someone new. She seems cautious, but warm. Sansa, however, is visibly more than a little hesitant. She looks her up and down, giving the slightest smile before saying words that we weren’t sure we would hear.

“Winterfell is yours, Your Grace.”

-Sansa Stark

Sansa is no stranger to the game of thrones. She knows how to play better than anyone, having some of the best teachers in Westeros. So she knows how to appease a Queen. But it’s clear she doesn’t trust her. And to be fair, we can’t blame her. She’s known too many cruel and mad rulers in her time, and she knows what trusting a stranger can do. But by the end of the season, will these two stand together? They are two of the strongest women in the show, each surviving unthinkable horrors at a young age. If they put their forces together, Cersei wouldn’t stand a chance. But then again, we still have the white walkers to worry about.

A lot is coming in the final season of Game Of Thrones. But will these two women stand together? Only time will tell.
