If you haven’t seen Jordan Peele’s directorial debut and masterpiece, Get Out, we can’t stress enough how much you need to watch it. It’s one of the few films out there that is not over-hyped, and not only that, it is one of the truly original modern day horror films. Jordan Peele made a horrifyingly poignant film that we were sure he could not beat. And as we should have suspected, he proved us wrong.
On Christmas Day, Peele released the first official trailer for his new horror film, Us. Up until this point, details about the movie had been scarce. All we knew was that it stars Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke, and Elisabeth Moss, and that unlike Peele’s first film, Us would not be about race. Us is about our own worst enemy: ourselves. We had no idea how literally he meant that.
We here at Fiction’s Mistress have never been so terrified of a trailer in our life. Just two and a half minutes is enough to have us looking over our shoulder and hiding under the covers. We don’t know if we can stomach this in theaters, but there’s no denying that this film looks nothing short of brilliant. If not ridiculously terrifying.
