The ensured success of Netflix’s hit period drama, The Crown, relied solely on its casting. Audiences everywhere fell in love with the original trio of Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, and Matt Smith as Prince Philip. And while replacing them was a necessary inevitability, the re-casts needed to be nothing short of perfect. And as we should have expected, Netflix did not disappoint.
The new cast of The Crown is extremely talented, to say the least, and honestly, we think the series chose the perfect trio. With Olivia Colman replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Tobias Menzies stepping in for Matt Smith as Prince Philip, and Helena Bonham Carter taking over for Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret, this cast is positively star-studded. And thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we have our first photos from Season 3! And just from this small glimpse alone, we can tell that these three are going to do their characters, and the previous actors, justice. We can’t wait!
