The first trailer for the highly anticipated fourth Avengers film, titled Avengers: Endgame, dropped last week, and it sent fans everywhere into a bit of a panic. Particularly considering that almost half of the trailer tries to convince us that Tony Stark has just hours to live, as he’s currently stranded alone in space. Fans were so worried that NASA, yes, NASA, received thousands of tweets and messages of pleas to save our beloved Iron Man. They even responded, and we don’t know what’s better, their advice, or the fact that they actually responded!
But back to Mr. Stark. The first 55 seconds of the trailer show Tony, alone on a spaceship with his broken Iron Man suit (you can thank Thanos for that). The situation looks pretty dark, but it’s his words that truly inspire fear.
“This thing on? Hey, Ms. Potts. If you find this recording, don’t feel bad about this. Part of the journey is the end. Just for the record, being adrift in space with zero promise of rescue is more fun than it sounds. Food and water ran out four days ago. Oxygen will run out tomorrow morning, and that’ll be it. When I drift off, I will dream about you. It’s always you.”– Tony Stark, Avengers: Endgame
From the sounds of it, the superhero who led the Marvel Cinematic Universe to greatness has about 12 hours to live. But quite frankly…we’re not buying it.
This is not the first time Tony Stark has faced a situation that should have killed him. And while things may seem dire, if Marvel has taught us anything, it is that there is always hope. Even when it’s hard to see. Now, that being said, it is possible that we will see the death of Iron Man, but we can almost guarantee that his death will not happen on that spaceship. And there are a couple of reasons for that.
One, out of the many superheroes that turned to ash when Thanos snapped his fingers, none of the six original Avengers vanished. They all remain, and we don’t believe that’s a coincidence. Let us remind you of a quote back from the first Avengers film, something that Tony said himself.
“If we can’t protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we’ll avenge it.”Tony Stark, The Avengers
Those words hold even more weight now than they did in previous films. And the fact that those six survived says a lot about what’s to come. Tony may die by the ending of the fourth Avengers film, but we can’t see it happening before that.
Secondly, we can’t forget that another very important superhero is joining the cause in Endgame. One who comes from very far away, one who is strong enough to defeat Thanos. All on her own. Her name? Captain Marvel. And we don’t think it’s outside the realm of possibility for her to pick up Tony Stark on her way to Earth. And if not her, well, Thor and Nebula are still both in space. And despite what everyone is saying, we’re still holding out some hope for Loki. Who knows! Anything is possible when it comes to Marvel. But what we are sure of is that the end is not as near as it seems for Tony Stark. Even if he doesn’t realize it.
Avengers: Endgame Hits Theaters In April 2019.
