For a few years, Netflix seemed to be on a bit of a role, teaming up with Marvel to create some fantastically dark superhero shows. But lately, they’ve been dropping like flies. The Defenders, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage were all cancelled, but the the most shocking cancellation of all was Daredevil, which not only was beloved by many, but had the fourth season completely planned. This leads us to believe the cancellations were about more than just numbers. Perhaps Marvel has a bigger plan for their superheroes.
With those four shows gone, that leaves us with Jessica Jones and The Punisher. And while Jones has not yet been renewed for a third season, Season 2 of The Punisher will be released soon, according to the popular streaming platform. We aren’t entirely sure how soon we can expect to see it, but there’s a chance we may be waiting only a month!
On Wednesday, Netflix released a teasing glimpse into what will be hitting the streaming platform come January 2019, and near the end, after their logo appears, a brief clip of Frank Castle getting into a truck can be seen, with the promise of Season 2 coming soon. But what they don’t give us is a release date!
It’s important to remember that we haven’t even received a trailer for the new season of The Punisher yet. But our bet is we’ll be getting that sooner than you might think, considering that the show has been quite active on social media of late.
The first season of The Punisher ended with the Lieberman family finally reunited, thanks to Frank Castle and Dinah Madani, and a looming question of one, what will Frank do next, and two, what the future has in store for Frank and Karen. And, of course, we can’t forget Frank and Billy Russo’s intense battle, where Frank destroys Russo’s face beyond recognition in the most gruesome way. This confirmed Russo’s transformation into Jigsaw, who will no doubt be the big bad of Season 2. The role will be played once again by the incredible Ben Barnes, though he’ll look very different from his normal self.
If the second season is anything like the first, The Punisher will be an undeniable success. But does that mean it is safe from cancellation? Only time will tell.
