Trailer Watch: ‘What Men Want’ Is The Genius Re-Envision Of Nancy Meyers’ Original ‘What Women Want’

Back in 2000, Nancy Meyers directed a film starring Mel Gibson and Helen Hunt titled What Women Want. Gibson plays a misogynist, who, after a freak accident, is able to suddenly hear women’s every thought. And I mean every thought. The result is more than just funny, though, it makes him see the error of his ways and in the end, it makes him a better person. What Men Want, set to hit theaters in 2019, is the gender-switched version. And it looks even better.

Starring Taraji P. Henson, the film is all about a woman who works her butt off in a male-dominated industry, and doesn’t get any of the recognition she deserves. But after seeing a psychic and hitting her head, she can suddenly hear everything every man is thinking. The result? Well, the trailer says it all!

While some are extremely excited for this re-envision, the film is already getting plenty of hate. Some are referring to it as the work of “feminazis”, while others claim that men’s thoughts aren’t safe anymore. To that, all I have to say is: this film is pure comedy. This film is not attacking men for thinking. It’s fiction. It’s fun. At the very least, maybe wait until the movie actually comes out before you start hating on it. And while remakes are a tricky territory nowadays, we have to applaud the film on its diverse casting! I, for one, am quite excited to see what they do with it!
