We Have Our First Look At Olivia Colman As Queen Elizabeth II In ‘The Crown’

While Claire Foy played the role for Seasons 1 & 2, Olivia Colman takes over for Seasons 3 & 4.

Season 2 of Netflix’s The Crown came with a mixture of excitement and sadness. After all, we knew it was the last time we would see our beloved main cast, namely Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, and Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret. And though we knew this was coming, we didn’t know who their replacements would be.

This decision was a big one, one that would make or break the show. But luckily for us, they could not have chosen better, especially for the Queen herself. Taking over for Claire Foy in the upcoming season of The Crown, set to release on Netflix in 2019, Olivia Colman is stepping into the role of Queen Elizabeth II. And if you’ve ever seen Colman in anything, you’ll know how incredible this casting is. Colman, best known for Broadchurch and The Night Manager, has the perfect mix of severity and softness needed to fill Foy’s shoes. And now, we have the very first picture to prove it.

The show’s twitter account posted the picture, teasing our new Queen. And just the photo alone is giving us chills. The Crown‘s casting directors seriously deserve a raise.
