David Benioff and D.B Weiss make a truly incredible writing duo. They are, after all, the show-runners for one of the most successful television shows ever, Game Of Thrones. But with HBO’s fantasy series coming to an end, the writing pair looks to the future. And to a galaxy far, far away…
That’s right. Disney announced on Tuesday that the Game Of Thrones creators will be developing their own Star Wars films, serving as both writers and producers. These films will be separate from both the Skywalker (or main) Saga, along with the separate series to be written by Rian Johnson, writer and director of The Last Jedi.
This is unsurprising and, quite honestly, they’re the perfect writing team to helm this project. They have proven themselves time and time again, not only adapting one of the biggest fantasy series ever, but doing so to the enjoyment of both book-fans and non-readers alike. Star Wars, like Thrones, has a supreme and loyal following. This endeavor isn’t for the faint of heart, and they know that.
“We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
Also released this week was the first full trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story, so needless to say, it has been a massive week for Star Wars fans! And for Game Of Thrones buffs? At least this won’t be the last we see of this iconic writing duo.
