Helena Bonham Carter Might Be Joining Netflix’s ‘The Crown’

Though she's best known for her wacky roles, Helena Bonham Carter would make the perfect Princess!

With the second season of the hit period drama, The Crown, currently streaming on Netflix, fans can’t help but wonder what the next two seasons will bring. The showrunners have been very clear about recasting come the third season to more accurately portray the Royal family, and many names have been mentioned. The only replacement that has been confirmed is Olivia Colman, who will be replacing Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II (quite a brilliant choice, I must say). But it now looks like we might have our Princess Margaret, and it’s unexpectedly perfect!

While nothing is concrete, sources are saying it is “all but confirmed” that none other than Helena Bonham Carter will be taking over the role of Princess Margaret, currently played by Vanessa Kirby. This may seem like an odd choice at first. After all, Carter is known for her wacky roles, namely Bellatrix Lestrange and Mrs. Lovett. She knows her villains. But Carter also has an extremely sweet side to her. If you recall, she portrayed Queen Elizabeth in The King’s Speech!

Princess Margaret is not nearly as quirky as some of Carter’s best known roles. But she’s bold and a trendsetter. She’s a modern woman. Carter would be able to bring that sparkle, that boldness to the role, and really capture the essence of what Kirby brought to the screen. Hopefully the confirmation comes soon!
