‘The Punisher’ Has Been Renewed For A Second Season!!

It isn't the show's violence, but its true heart that earned its well-deserved renewal.

It’s official! The Punisher is returning for Season 2!! Netflix took to Twitter on Tuesday to make the exciting announcement.

The Punisher, which is a spin-off of Netflix’s first original superhero show, Daredevil, has received mixed reviews from both critics and fans, which sparked some debate about whether or not the show would get renewed. But luckily for us, there are a lot more fans than haters.

The Punisher is somewhat of a controversial show, and I’ll admit that I felt more than a little trepidation at the initial announcement of the series. I love Frank Castle, and I simply adore how Jon Bernthal portrays him, but I wasn’t ready to get behind a show where the main character commits regular mass shootings. Even if he only kills bad guys…that’s just a little too much for me. But The Punisher proved to be so much more than just violence and action. For every dark moment, there was a tender moment. For every action-packed, gory scene, there was a touching display of intimacy. Despite its title, we saw far more of Frank Castle than we did of the Punisher. That’s what made this series work. And that’s why I’m so glad they’ve renewed it.

Season 1 left us with a satisfying combination of joyful closure and exciting new plots, just waiting to thicken. Frank is, officially, still wanted, but his prints have been wiped from the system. He’s a free man, and for the first time in years, he doesn’t have a war to fight. He is starting to finally let himself feel grief, thanks to both Karen Page and new friend, David Lieberman. No doubt the Lieberman family will play a part in the second season (we can only hope!), but the most exciting new plot by far is the introduction of Jigsaw, Billy Russo’s alter ago. Billy, played the fantastic Ben Barnes, finished off the first season by having his face completely shredded by Frank, turning him from Beaut to Beast in an instant. I wouldn’t worry, Frank. You’ll have another war to fight soon enough.

Netflix has yet to announce the release date of The Punisher‘s second season, but the renewal is more than enough for now!
