When BBC announced a new miniseries starring Kit Harington and Liv Tyler, there was a moment of excitement followed by a moment of sadness. If you live outside of the UK, BBC shows can be extremely hard to watch. But luckily its newest miniseries, Gunpowder, was just picked up by none other than HBO!
Gunpowder is a historic drama about the Gunpowder Plot of 1605, AKA the assassination attempt on King James I. And though Guy Fawkes gained the most notoriety from the plot, Robert Catesby (Kit Harington) was the true mastermind behind it. The miniseries also stars Mark Gatiss as Robert Cecil and Liv Tyler as Anne Vaux, and focuses on the plot itself, telling a lesser known version of the story. Harington, who is actually a descendant of Catesby’s, is one of the executive producers of the show, which has been in development for three years.
The first episode of Gunpowder will premiere on HBO on December 18th, the second on the 19th, and the third and final episode will air on the 20th, all at 10 PM.
