Welcome Back!

Welcome back, lovelies! We are officially one week into 2017, and I realized that I haven’t yet made a post!

To be completely honest with you, December was an extremely overwhelming month for me. Stress always comes with the holidays, but between keeping up with posts over here in my little corner of the internet, Creators, my regular job along with just, you know, life, I was feeling completely beaten down. Every few nights I found myself crying for no reason whatsoever, eating an abnormal (even for me) amount of junk food, and rewatching Friends for the eighth time. And while Friends is fantastic, it wasn’t exactly productive. I knew that, which only made things worse.

I decided to take a bit of a step back, and when I did that, I realized how long it had been since I’d given myself a guilt-free day off. A day where I slept in until 9:30 and didn’t rake myself over the coals for it. A day where I chilled out on the couch and genuinely relaxed, watched a couple of movies or shows and didn’t punish myself for not working instead. And I realized just how ridiculous that was! We all need days off. We all need days to just relax, because without them, we end up overworking ourselves and truthfully, it’s hard to find enjoyment in anything in that state.

I love what I do. I mean it. I absolutely love this blog. I love geeking out about my favourite movies and shows, or writing about books, taking pretty pictures for Instagram. It’s fantastic. But it wasn’t feeling that way. It was feeling like a chore that I had to do but didn’t want to. And the fact is that when it feels that way, I don’t put out my best content. It’s forced, and that’s just never a good place to be.

So, where am I heading with this?

First and foremost, I know I’m not the only one who feels this way. So I want to let you know that it is totally okay to have days where you just relax. In fact, it’s more than okay, it’s necessary! Take some time, even if it’s only a couple of hours, where you sit down with a yummy snack and watch that movie you’ve been dying to watch, or rewatch that show you love so much, and do so with zero guilt! You have nothing to feel guilty about! Take it from someone who knows.

Secondly, I definitely hope to write at least one post a week. That was my goal last year, and I ended up with over 100, which was unexpected and amazing. I’ll probably end up writing more, especially when Game of Thrones returns, but I’m not going to push myself unless I feel up to it. I want to make sure that everything I put out this year is my best work. You guys deserve the best, after all!

And finally, what you can expect from me this year. I’ll be continuing to write about shows and films that I love, and of course, I’ll be typing up some fabulous (or not so fabulous) book reviews. In the next month, I might post a list of films and shows I’m really hoping to watch this year. But what do you want to see me write? Anything in particular you want me to watch/read and review? Just talk about in general? Let me know down in the comments!

As always, thanks for reading! And let’s make this year a great one!

Sincerely, Fiction’s Mistress
