Wow. Just…wow. I cannot believe that one year ago today, I started this blog! You know, the really crazy thing is I did it kind of on a whim than anything else.
I had a YouTube channel for a couple of years in high school. It was a lot of work, but something I really enjoyed. But then it just stopped becoming enjoyable. Maybe I had outgrown it, or maybe it was just the timing. But whatever it was, it just wasn’t fun anymore, and the amount of work I was putting into wasn’t worth it. But I still wanted to get my opinions out there. I mean, I’m a fangirl above anything else, I have a lot of emotions to express, as all of you well know.
I had tried blogging a couple of years back, but just couldn’t get into it. But I decided to give it another go. What’s the worst that could happen, right? Thanks to marathoning BBC’s The Musketeers for a second time, I got the idea (I seriously have no idea how the two correlated in my head, but here we are). I set it up with a theme (which I gladly switched earlier this year), and bam!
So much has happened in this past year, and I really just want to thank all of my readers. Whether you actually follow this blog, or maybe just stop by every once in a while, I would not be where I am today without you. Your support has been incredible, so thank you so much for that.
It’s really hard for me to wrap my head around how much has changed in the past 12 months. I’m living a completely different life, and so many exciting things have and are happening.
My first month here I had 13 views. It was so small, it took everything in me to find the motivation to continue on with it. But I’m so glad I did. In this past year, I have written 25 articles for ScreenPrism, and am now a Verified Creator at Movie Pilot, I get to write about film and television, and basically geek out as one of my jobs, which is crazy to say. I also get to write book reviews for Online Book Club, and I have to say, getting paid to read is something that’s been a goal of mine for so many years. But I never thought I’d be doing it so soon.
My photography is starting to take off and I’ve had the opportunity to start making cosplays, which is pretty incredible. I would have never been able to do these things without the confidence and joy I’ve found here in this little corner of the world, if not for all of your support. And while there’s still so much more I want to accomplish, I’m starting to transform my dreams into reality. And that’s such a fantastic feeling.
So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. And if you’re starting out with a blog, or with any endeavour, don’t give up. Just because it doesn’t happen right away doesn’t mean it will never happen. And did you know I read a statistic that said most bloggers quit within their first three months? Imagine how successful those bloggers could have been. So don’t give in, do what you love, and never let anyone tell you differently. Because when everyone told me I needed to stop talking about Game of Thrones, I refused to because I loved it, and only a few days later I was approached by ScreenPrism because of my GoT articles. Passion and love will always win out. Sometimes it just takes a little longer.
It’s been such a wonderful year. I have so much planned, and I’m working on so many things that I’m so excited to share with you. Be sure to follow me on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook to keep up to date with everything, and if there’s something you’d love to see me write about, please feel free to comment! Stay tuned, and as always, thanks for reading.
Sincerely, Fiction’s Mistress
